Here is where we assess the learning spirit of a student, that which is a leading indicator for their success.

Connection

_The learner trusts others_. They are comfortable in sharing their thinking and questions with teachers and peers in their learning community, showing that they are aware of and value the network of support around them. The learner makes efforts to personally connect with others in the classroom. They show interest in the opinions and ideas of others. The learner listens whole-heartedly to others.

Resilience

_The learner trusts themselves_. They are comfortable with not knowing and are optimistic about their ability to learn and to improve their skills. They persevere through learning challenges, valuing that they are opportunities to learn and part of the learning process. The learner trusts the worthiness of their questions and is confident and persistent in their investigations.

Curiosity

_The learner approaches learning with questions_. They formulate questions, actively follow their interests and think purposefully about how they might ‘find out’. The learner thinks critically about the information they gather and uses a range of sources and techniques to investigate problems, ponderings and interests.

_The learner is eager to learn._ They display this eagerness even when the learning is in areas that are unfamiliar to them. They work to hone their character by valuing Humanity, Integrity and Grit.

_The learner can learn independently._ They value the advice and support of others. They self-monitor their learning commitment. The learner knows themselves as a learner and can identify personal goals, working with determination towards achieving them.

_The learner is continually generating new wonders._ They are able to confidently share those wonders with others. They bravely communicate what they are curious about and the journey their interests takes them on.

_The learner demonstrates originality of thought and/or inventiveness._ They communicate imaginative ideas and solutions and harness the power and opportunity to create.
